I Know History (“IKH,” “we,” “us”) is a platform for student-written history essays, essay competitions and history quizzes. It’s operated by I Know History in Pennsylvania, USA and is open to users worldwide. When you create an account, you agree to the following:

1. You are at least 13 years old. If the law where you live sets a higher age for consenting to online services (up to 16 in some countries), you meet that age or a parent or guardian has agreed to these terms for you.
2. Accurate information. You’ll give truthful details about yourself, including your name, email and school or affiliation if you share it. You’ll keep your password private and are responsible for activity on your account.
3. Your own work. Every essay you submit is your original work. You’ll cite every source you quote, paraphrase or draw on. Plagiarism, fabricated sources and work written by someone else are not allowed.
4. AI tools. You won’t submit text generated by AI tools as your own writing. You may use them only as the Editorial Policy allows, and you’ll disclose that use when you submit.
5. You keep your copyright. You own what you write. By submitting, you give IKH a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to publish, display, edit for format and length, archive and promote your essay, with credit to you. Competition partners may display winning essays too.
6. Editorial review. IKH may review, edit, decline, or remove any submission under the Editorial Policy. Submitting an essay doesn’t guarantee publication or an award.
7. Respectful conduct. You won’t post hateful, harassing, sexually explicit, defamatory or illegal content, or content that denies documented atrocities. You won’t share anyone’s personal information without permission.
8. Each competition has its own Official Rules. When you enter, you agree to those rules and to the judges’ decisions.
9. Your data. We collect and use your information as described in the Privacy Policy. We don’t sell your personal information.
10. Changes and termination. We may update these terms and will tell you about material changes. We may suspend accounts that break these terms. You can delete your account at any time.
